Upgrading moulding and painting is the best way to transform your house or
condominium from ordinary to outstanding. Spruce up your home in days with custom details instead of ripping it apart through months of major renovation work.
Crown moulding, door casing, base moulding, wainscot and other craftsman’s touches turn a boring, average house or condo into a charming, attractive, and upscale home.
Whether you’re interested in improving the resale value or you just want to get more enjoyment out of your home, our improvements will enhance the inside of your home.
Anyone can claim to be able to install molding, but to do it well, it takes the skill and attention to detail of trained craftsmen who specialize in this demanding work. If your molding is installed wrong, there is little or nothing one can do about it, because separations in your corners will reappear over and over again, creating annoying, distracting eyesores, including cracks in the corners.
If you’re considering a crown molding installation in your home, the most important challenge for the installer is how the corners should be handled, because the rest of the work is fairly straightforward- just driving nails and filling the holes. A common mistake to avoid, is having a painter, handy man or even a general contractor do the molding installation. Why? Because installing crown molding, as with other architectural trim work is a specialized craft, and those who take on the task as an “add-on job,” generally lack the skills, specialized tools and the time-saving approaches developed by the experienced specialists at Spectacular Trim.
Properly installed crown molding, with its precise interlocking coped corners, will make your ceiling look like a picture frame. The crisp, gap-free corners will never require caulking or putty to hide flaws that commonly result from less-precise, mitered corners or improper measurements made by a less-experienced installer.
There are those that will argue that a mitered joint is also a picture frame joint. But what they fail to point out, is that mitered picture frame joints are always reinforced in some manner by nails, staples or splines. A mitered joint that is only glued together, is weak and prone to eventually separate.
We know how and can perform both coped and mitered corner molding installation so we leave that decision to you, the customer. But, we definitely believe that a coped corner installation is the superior method. The good news for customers of Difilippo Construction is, over the years we have developed a system and approach that is often less expensive than what competitors charge to install moulding, and we are able to dothe work in far less time, with much less jobsite mess.
Call today and we will be happy to come to your home and give you a free consultation and estimate.
1) In-home Consultation
The first step is to visit with you at your home for a free design consultation and estimate. We will bring various samples of moulding profiles, and if you want suggestions, we can suggest ideas about what might look good in your home based on the height of your ceilings and the style of home you have. We take very basic measurements of the rooms to be estimated and give you a price quote based on the total number of inner and outer corners in each room and any needed wall splices for long runs at that time. Pictures of home interiors from magazines or books can be helpful at this stage and we encourage you to spend some time in advance thinking about the atmosphere and style you would like to achieve.
2) Digital Blueprint
The next step in our process utilizes laser beam measuring devices to precisely measure every wall and corner angle in each room. When we are done, we have a digital blueprint of the entire work area, which we use to prepare your material in our workshop. This process takes about 10 minutes per room.
3) Moulding Preparation
Cutting and shaping a large stack of moulding at a home can create a tremendous amount of fine dust so we spare you as much of the on-site mess as possible and do most of the messy work in our workshop. Working this way, we avoid the risk of tracking a dirty mess through your home, and we also benefit from the dust collection system installed in our shop. To ensure consistency, we have material for your job ordered so that all moulding is from the same factory run. We don’t mix moulding from different manufacturers since the same profile of moulding will vary slightly in height and thickness by manufacturer. The material is picked up just in time from local sources so that the material doesn’t stand the risk of being chipped or damaged sitting around our shop for an extended period of time. All the inside corner joints are machine-coped to create extremely tight joints even with out of square room walls. All parts are labeled and grouped by room then loaded for delivery to your home to ensure an efficient installation day.
4) On-Site Installation
Installation is is clean fast and easy. All outer corners are glued together using state of the art glues to ensure joints do not come separate as the result of seasonal changes in humidity. All inner corners are sprung into place to ensure tight corner joints. Final attachment to the walls and ceilings is done using 15 gauge cordless nailing technology instead of traditional compressor based guns and hoses to eliminate the chance of dirty compressor hoses leaving marks on your carpets. Nail holes and joints are immediately filled and the moulding is caulked to the wall and ceiling making the job ready for the painters to follow the next day.
